BBQ at Kweli’s
The rap game has not blessed me with loads of money, expensive jewels, or exotic cars. Instead, I have been given a collection of unforgettable experiences, extensive travel, and some of the most interesting friends in the world. One of the people I am fortunate enough to call a friend is brother Talib Kweli. Kweli has been a source of inspiration for me at different points in my life over the last 15 or so years. Before I knew Kweli, I was inspired by the chemistry he and Hi-Tek were able to capture as Reflection Eternal. When he dropped “Just To Get By”, I was inspired by his ability to still be conscious, and penetrate the mainstream at the same time. Now I am inspired by his elevation as a man, handling the responsibilities of fatherhood, and being a husband. . .all while continuing to do more work than your average rapper. Real BLACKMAN shit. Yesterday Kweli, texted a bunch of the homies and had an last minute BBQ at his crib. Me and brother Dedan Kasimu went to get some Vegan goods to grill and we were on our way after the God Supreme came to scoop us.The homegirls Autumn Marie, Somayra, and Donna were handling the cooking, good to see 88 Keys, Pharoahe Monch, Dedan Kasimu, Dave Dar, good to met Nemiss…etc. I took some bad photos of the night, was high…
